Educators, as in any profession, should always reflect on their practice. As discussed in
The Hero's Journey, self-reflection is continuous to help us modify what we do. It is the same with student learning. As our students understand self-reflection it will lead not only to increased performance but to a greater satisfication in their work. Sharing our reflections provides insight in how others learn and should be used to enhance our learning community.
A quote from
The Hero's Journey states,
"In heroic schools, educators, administrators, and others view each person as a learner and a leader. The principal's role then, is to build the capacity of others to learn and to lead."
- To what extent do we promote collaborative work culture in our school?
- How do we make use of peer coaching, study groups, and action research to eliminate staff and student isolation and to solve identified problems?
These questions can also be asked of us as teachers. Our classroom culture should support a learning community among our students with the teachers as guides or mentors.
